RNF Retro

Lost's RNF Retro is Groovy Smooth Glide Vibe - meets proven Mayhem ProFormance. Like a beautiful vintage hotrod, souped up with a modern brand new Engine and transmission, it's the best of both worlds. Now you can have your cool and rip it too.

From Matt 'Mayhem' Biolos:

The RNF Retro is our latest spin on the always evolving Round Nose Fish. It features noticeable elements from the purist (mostly San Diego influenced) evolution of wide, split tailed Fish, and smashes them together with much of what we have learned in nearly 25 years of shaping and riding the ...Lost RNF. First off, the tail is wide for that effortless glide and retro vibe. Coming in at over 1 inch from tip to tip, and 4 inches deep, it's the deepest and widest split tail we've released.

The board prominently features a snowboard-Esque, double side cut outline. Strongly in influenced by years of snowboarding, and then seeing the boards of underground SD shapers like Mirandon and Caster, we first developed and released our double side cut on the Pelagic model, in the late 2's. Like with a snowboard, the sidecut 'grips' the riding surface and allows for more radical, tighter radius direction changes on wider, otherwise difficult to turn sharply, outlines and flat rockers. The sidecut hooks into the wave face and turns surprisingly sharp, without the usual drift or skip or slip, associated with common wide tail fish shapes.

The flat deck allows the board to be ridden thinner, which enables more flex. Thin flat decks maintain more scoop in the deck rocker, which when surfed with the rail buried perpendicular into the surface, helps low rocker boards turn in tighter arcs, rather than tracking or flatten-ing out. All these elements are built around our time tested and proven RNF rocker bottom curves. The RNF Retro is flat upfront with the slightest of single concave through the centre, and a spiral vee from the fins back. This equates to a fast, yet precise and comfortable, familiar ride, without sacrificing glide.

Keels are fast and fun, but split keels perform better.

The RNF Retro is designed to be ridden with split keels, or a Twin + two (small trailers) quad setup. There is no rear fin box on this board. We highly recommend using this board with split keel quads.

What Noel Says

Independent Review by Noel Salas

In this episode we have special guest Nate Yeomans join us to review the Lost RNF Retro Fish.

Nate and I enjoy good conversation around the attributes of the Retro Fish and our experiences riding this model in two different constructions with multiple fin set ups.

The Retro Fish is very versatile and goes GOOD in 1-4’ surf with multiple fin configurations. The PU construction gives it that classic retro fish vibe feeling solid on big carves and down the line speed.

Nate and I also talk about Lost’s new construction called C4 that has an EPS foam core with a thin layer of Cork covering the entire deck. This layer of cork acts as a dampener to reduce chatter, and strengthen the deck to extend the life of the board. The C4 construction has a livelier feel due to its EPS foam core. Nate and I both agree that it gives the Retro Fish a more performance feel compared to the PU adding a bit of flare or X Factor in every turn.

The Lost Retro Fish is a really fun board and I highly recommend it for surfers that range from beginners to the advanced levels.
