With a Tri-Quad set up you literally get the best of both worlds! Ride the board as a quad when it's smaller and you need a little more speed from your board and then change it up to thruster when the waves are a bit bigger and you need that extra hold through your turns.
Please make sure you don't put all five fins in at once though, because that would be silly.
